Nurturing Young Minds
At Montessori Children’s Academy, we’re dedicated to fostering each child’s love for learning. Our experienced, Montessori-trained educators provide a warm and engaging environment where young minds thrive. Through hands-on activities and individualized guidance, we help children build a strong foundation for future success.
Children have an absorbent mind: “The child absorbs it. The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul.”
Facilities
Amidst the stunning pine trees, you’ll find our shared campus on South Park Avenue. We are in the lower level of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and offer two spacious classrooms, prepared with several materials commonly found in traditional Montessori learning environments: A toddler or Young Children’s House and a Primary or Children’s House. Outside and across from one of our entrances, picnic tables and a grassy field welcome outdoor eating and exploration. On the far North side of the parking lot is our large playground, garden, and shade area. Here, you’ll discover a large play structure that was just installed this year, and two pieces of equipment with musical components to them. Montessori Children’s Academy is more than just a preschool. Schedule a family tour and discover a World of Difference!
“Concentration is the key that opens up to the child the latent treasures within him.”
Founders
Sandra Houston
Our founder and director, was trained with Mario Montessori and has opened several Montessori schools, both in California and in Arizona. She is trained at both the Primary and Elementary levels with the Association of Montessori Internationale.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Prescott College and was a pioneer in the charter school movement. She started the Montessori Consortium and was a huge advocate for charter schools working together in the best interest of all of the children.
Within the classroom, you will find her custom reading program and a trivia collection that includes several birth dates and details throughout the year based on famous musicians, scientists, inventors, poets, and so much more!
Mrs. Houston prides herself on the ability to guide the children in such a way that they are able to work as though she does not exist.
Kristina Houston
Mrs Houston’s daughter, is trained at the Primary and Elementary levels with AMI, the association of Montessori Internationale. She also holds a Master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in global business with an emphasis in marketing.
She is our lead Primary Directoress and has experience working with children guiding her own Primary classroom, as well as acting as a certified substitute with ages 18 months through 12 years.
Her experience also includes various administrative roles in management with Mrs. Houston’s charter schools, working between two campuses, assisting in classrooms, training staff, and ensuring safe and successful environments for both staff and children.
